Course Description:

ECHO 8 Aerobic Fitness & Hiking Program
June 9th – June 26th

This course offers an alternative to the traditional learning environment of a classroom. Through a series of hikes, team-building and leadership exercises, classes, and outdoor activities students will learn that exercise can be enjoyable. As exercise becomes play we hope students will adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle.

During the course, students will learn how to apply good nutrition for improving health and activity exertion. Students will also learn the elements of exercise science and how it relates to outdoor activity and injury prevention. Additionally we’ll teach: map-reading and navigational skills, preparing for mountain weather, first aid skills relevant to hiking, and what gear to carry into the backcountry. We’ll also discuss the principles of “leave no trace.” All students will participate in an environmental service project.

Day 7 - Game Day

Well, we decided to give the participants a little break today by giving them a game day. We originally had a hike planned, but we love our participants and decided not to work them hard today...but they better be ready for tomorrow!

We only had time for one game. We played Fear Factor ECHO 8 style! If you are familiar with Fear Factor, then you will know that there are 3 stages. The participants played a simple frisbee game to start things off. They then played a "fill the bucket" game by the river side. The goal was to see which team could fill their bucket the fastest with water, and naturally water was flying everywhere with minor cuts and bruises in between!

The last stage was the kicker...you can't have a Fear Factor without having to eat something. So, the participants had to eat raw vegetables....oh no! It may not seem so bad, but the face expressions in some of the following pics may express differently. Who knew eating vegetables could be so terrible!

Good times!
