Course Description:

ECHO 8 Aerobic Fitness & Hiking Program
June 9th – June 26th

This course offers an alternative to the traditional learning environment of a classroom. Through a series of hikes, team-building and leadership exercises, classes, and outdoor activities students will learn that exercise can be enjoyable. As exercise becomes play we hope students will adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle.

During the course, students will learn how to apply good nutrition for improving health and activity exertion. Students will also learn the elements of exercise science and how it relates to outdoor activity and injury prevention. Additionally we’ll teach: map-reading and navigational skills, preparing for mountain weather, first aid skills relevant to hiking, and what gear to carry into the backcountry. We’ll also discuss the principles of “leave no trace.” All students will participate in an environmental service project.

Day 4 - Ropes Course

Today is the day we flew!

For the participants today was a much needed day. The past week has tested them to their limits, therefore, their bodies needed to recoup a bit! They were treated pancakes at Great Harvest Bakery...probably some of the best pancakes around! And they spent the day at the ropes course in West Jordan.

The primary lesson they learned at the ropes course was how to work as a team. The course teaches them how to communicate & serve one another, as well as simple hands on rope experience.

Probably the highlight of the ropes course was the climb up the rock wall.....

....then the zip line down!

We missed Truman & Jessica due to illness, hope you get better soon!
